<br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY- <br /> <br />A. Presentation: Emergency Operation Center Report - Jim Skinner, Fire Chief, <br />Dave Pucci, Fire Battalion Chief, and Geoff Balton, Fire Battalion <br />Chief <br /> <br />Members of the Fire Department reported on the most recent "Emergency Operations <br />Response" and "Introduction to Emergency Management Earthquake" exercises. Every <br />Department within the City was represented at such event (65 employees in total). A <br />member of staff explained the concept of "perishable skills" and the need to keep them <br />fresh. Fire Battalion Chief Balton explained the CERT (Community Emergency Response <br />Team) training program and he thanked the community (presentation on file). One <br />Council Member suggested having the emergency response system information on the <br />website. Various Council Members posed questions about integration with other <br />jurisdictions and staff provided explanations regarding the collaborative efforts. Council <br />appreciated staff's work and acknowledged the involvement and investment by the <br />community. <br /> <br />B. Proclamation: San Mateo County West Nile Virus and Mosquito and Vector <br />Control Abatement - Robert (Bob) Bury, Trustee and <br />former Mayor of Redwood City <br /> <br />Mayor Foust presented the proclamation to former Mayor Bob Bury and to Angie Nakano <br />assistant vector control ecologist, from the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector <br />Control District. Mayor Foust proclaimed April 20 through April 26 as awareness week. <br /> <br />C. Proclamation: National Historic Preservation Month - Kenneth Rolandelli, <br />Chairperson, Historic Resources Advisory Committee <br /> <br />Mayor Foust said that May 2009 is being proclaimed National Historic Preservation Month. <br />Mr. Rolandelli explained the various events planned for May relating to historic <br />preservation and awareness. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust acknowledged that three congregations collaborated to plan the annual <br />Easter Hunt. She explained that these three churches had over 170 staff present but <br />there challenges accommodating close to 6,000 attendees. This number doubled what <br />was expected. Mayor Foust formally apologized to the community if expectations were not <br />met. She explained that the organizers learned a lot from this experience. She <br />encouraged the community to come back to the event and work together to improve it. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />Rabbi Jay Miller introduced Maribel Zarate a new program coordinator, and he thanked <br />the Fire Department for its presentation and work around emergency preparedness. <br />Representing the Peninsula Clergy Network (PCN) he spoke about partnerships between <br />the two City Departments (Fire and Police) and twelve congregations that are part of the <br />response centers. He commented that now there are fifty congregations participating in a <br />certificate program.
