~

7A
Page 33

~~A~ ~~/20: ~ ~

March 30, 2009

Community Planning & Zoning
City of Redwood City
1017 Middlefield Road
Redwood City, CA 94063

RE: Kentfield Pacific Place

Dear Redwood City Community Planning & Zoning,

We are writing in concern for the Kentfield Pacific Place project that is being planned at 1581 and
1617 Kentfield Avenue, Redwood City.

We are neighbors who live on Union Avenue. Our backyard will border the row of two-story homes
to be constructed just 15' from our backyard fence. We have two major concerns. First, having
several two-story buildings that close to our fence is going to compromise our privacy. OUf house
stands approximately 50 feet from the backyard fence. Isn't there a limit as to how close a new
building can be constructed to a neighboring fence? 15 feet sounds unreasonable to us. Secondly,
and just as important, is the fact that we are going to lose much of our backyard afternoon sun. We
have many types of plants, from roses to vegetables, including many mature trees that require full sun.

We have lived at 1600 Union Avenue for 26 years and have become accustomed to our neighborhood.
We appreciate the quiet backyard that has been ours for many years. We are respectful of our neighbors
and ask that in return. This new b~ilding project includes 24 homes/units on only two lots. This does not
appear to be a good use of this property and the busy neighboring streets. Parking and traffic on Kentfield
A venue is already congested, adding 24 homes, families and all the accompanying cars will be a
detriment to our neighborhood.

We feel very strongly about this project and will plan to attend the planning meeting on April 2151. At the
very least, we do hope that the 15' distance between the new buiidings and our backyard will be increased
substantially. We cannot understand why the City of Redwood City would consider allowing 24 homes
to be built on the two lots - it seems unreasonable.

We would appreciate any additional information you can provide us.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

~
kv~

Michael and Susan Reardon

1600 Union Avenue
Redwood City, CA 94061-2718
(650) 367-0278
