City surveys of attendees indicate that about 79010 of those attending <br />an event purchased food or beverages while visiting downtown and <br />spend an average of$15 per visit. Based on the survey results, it is <br />estimated that the economic impact for the downtown was almost $1.5 <br />minion. <br />c. New signature events included the Zoppe Italian Family Circus and the <br />Salsa Festival. In addition, Hometown Holidays continued to expand <br />its attractions. <br />d. New partnerships resulted in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Telecast of the <br />opening ceremonies, Fiestas Patrias (which attracted an estimated <br />2300 people). and an Asian Street Fair, The "Second Saturday Art <br />Walks" proved to be a regional draw and also brought a trolley to <br />downtown. <br />e. Four cultural concerts featured performers from Ghana, Russia, and <br />the Middle East. <br />f. A $50,000 grant from Target funded four family Sunday events. <br /> <br />2. Downtown Banner Program <br />a. A total of 202 vertical banners were. designed and fabricated, <br />celebrating the holidays, downtown WOW events, the Latino Film <br />Festival, the Farmer's Market, Target events and the Library. <br />b. Horizontal banners were also designed and fabricated for special <br />events, including the Pet Parade, lmmigranfs Festival, Latino Film <br />Festival and Target events, among others. <br /> <br />3. Grand Boulevard Initiative (GBI) <br />Involvement in the regional GBI supported the corridor planning of the <br />General Plan update process and included: <br />a. Staff support to the Working Committee, facilitating City input regarding <br />Caltrsns design, the Economic and Housing Opportunities Assessment <br />(ECHO) grant application, the Multimodal Transportation Plan and the <br />preparation of the GBI Progress Report. <br />b. Planning and scheduling the one-day forum "New Realities, New <br />Choices" scheduled for June 20th. <br />c. Guidance related to the construction project for ECR between <br />Broadway and Brewster to meet the deadlines related to the federal <br />funding of $388, 000. Total cost for this project is now estimated at <br />$1.564,000. An additional $774,000 in grant funding has been secured <br />by Engineering staff, augmenting the MTC federal funding, over <br />$300,000 in RDA funding and $200,000 in City capital funding. <br />Pending approval of minor issues with Caltrans, this project will be <br />ready to go out to bid in FY 2009/10. <br /> <br />4. Implementation of Downtown Precise Plan. <br />The lawsuit and court ruling reversed the implementation of the DPP <br />development regulations and new zoning, primarily contained in Book II. <br /> <br />5 <br />
