Be
Page 23

50. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided for Group E occupancies in rooms or areas with
special hazards such as laboratories, vocational shops and other such areas where hazardous
materials in exempt amounts are used or stored. (IFC 903.2.2)

51. An automatic fire sprinkler system shall be provided for Group E occupancies throughout every
portion of educational buildings below the level of exit discharge (Title. 24, Part 9, CCR, Section
903.2.2). The basement choir room cannot be used as part of the proposed school unless
protected by automatic fire sprinklers.

52. Each required commercial kitchen exhaust hood and duct system shall be protected with an
approved automatic fire-extinguishlng system (IFe 904.2.1). Commercia! cooking equipment in
both kitchens shall be protected by automatic fire-extinguishing systems.

53. All buildings housing Group E occupancies shall front directly on a public street or an exit
discharae not less than 20 feet in width. (Tit'e 24, Part 2, CeR, Section 442.1) The new modular
classrooms do not meet this requirement.

54. For the purposes of determining the required wall and opening protection and roof-covering
requirements, buildings on the same lot shall be assumed to have an imaginary line between
them. Where a new building is to be erected on the same lot as an existing, the location of the
assumed imaginary line with relation to the existing building shall be such that the exterior wall
and opening protection of the existing building meet the criteria as set forth in International
Building Code Sections 704.5 and 704.8 (IBC 704.3). This requirement has not been met
between the existing Fellowship Hall and the new modular classrooms. This requirement has net
been met between the cluster of new modular classrooms.

55. The maximum area of unprotected or protected openings permitted in an exterior wall in any story
shall not exceed the values set forth in International Building Code Table 704.8 (IBC 704.8). The
maximum allowable area permitted for protected openings is exceeded at greater than 3 feet to 5
feet and greater than 5 feet to 10 feet.

56. The fire-resistance rating of exterior walls with a separation distance of 5 feet or less shall be rated
for exposure to fire from both sides (IBC 704.5). The distance from the new modular classrooms
to the imaginary line between the new modular classrooms and the existing Fellowship Hall is 5
feet. The distance from existing Fellowship Hall to the imaginary line between the existing
Fellowship Hall and the new modular classrooms is 5 feet. Therefore, the fire-resistance rating of
the exterior walls of both the new modular classrooms and the existing Fellowship Hall shall be
rated for exposure to fire from both sides. The fire-resistance rating of the exterior walls of the
modular classrooms shall include the skirting surrounding the structure. The %-hour fire..
resistance rated windows shall nm be the sliding type. These windows must be of fixed glazing.

57. I ndividual occupancies shall be separated from adjacent occupancies in accordance with
International Building Code Table 508.3.3 (IBC 508.3.3.4). A two-hour occupancy separation is
required between the kitchens and the classrooms in a non-sprinklered building. Show the
construction of aU walls and doors separating kitchens and classrooms.

58. The required fire flow at the minimum residual pressure of 20 psi shall be required. (lFC Appendix
B)

59. The minimum number of fire hydrants and spacing requirements available to the building shall not
be less than that listed in International Fire Code Appendix C. Show the location of fire hydrants
on the site map.

60. The fire apparatus access roadway has OPPOsing one-way traffic.
