Woodside Terrace
is a 270-unit senior housing residential commun.ity consisting of 180 independent living units
and 90 licensed assisted living units. On average, our residents are 75 years old.

We just learned yesterday about today's meeting to consider an application by certain individuals
to obtain a "use permit" to an ow the development of a massage parlor within 300 feet of our
senior housing resi.dential community. We understand that that the massage parlor would
operate from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. seven days per week. Common sense says that the
massage parlor should not be allowed! Brookdale strenuously objects to the application for the
use permit.

Clear! y, the proposed use would. be inconsistent with the current use of our property as a senior
citizen residential community. We believe that the neighbor's proposed use would have many
adverse affects upon our residents and our operations, including, but not limited to:

1. The proposed massage parlor would draw unsavory people to the neighborhood
that would result in higher crime in the area and an increased safety risk to OUf
senior residents. OUf seniors go for daily walks or walk their dogs along
Woodside Road, so they would be in close proximity to the massage parlor and its
patrons.

2. OUf residents would disapprove of a massage parlor in their neighborhood. The
existence of a massage parlor so close to Woodside Terrace would be a negative
attribute that would adversely affect our marketing of OUf units to prospect
residents and retention of our existing residents. With a reduction in current and
potential residents (and the need to reduce rents to attract new residents), the
value of OUf business would decline.
485 Woodside Road, Redwood City, California 94061 Telephone 650.366.3900 Fax 650.366.4908
Exceptional Senior Living
\o\'WV;'.abo u twoodsi deter race . com
RCFE #415600161
