As a neighborhood, we need to help the city understand how impractical and far from
suitable the proposal to open a massage parlor really is.

From what I understand of the information we know to date, the parking situation at the proposed
establishment is not a deciding factor in issuing a permit. It should be. I walked by yesterday midday
and noted that there are two spaces in front of the storefront - the only two nearby as there is no parking
on the side or in the rear - and these are 20-minute spaces. That is a very short massage! When I
continued walking back into our neighborhood, the closest parking spaces I could find were two blocks
away and on a narrow street. For the pool supplies company that occupied this space previously, a
couple 20-minute parking spaces may have worked. It doesn't take that long to purchase some pool
supplies. The massage parlor will require much longer stays and, with a number of massage rooms in
operation at the same time, will greatly exceed the available parking in our neighborhood.

3/13/2009
