Page 2 of2 8D
Page 29

I welcome new neighbors, particularly the kind that actually spend time in our neighborhood getting to
know one another, making our community a safer and more pleasant place to live. Employees and
patrons of a massage parlor COIning and going through the neighborhood at all hours of the day and a
good chunk of the night, dontt fit that description. Children throughout our neighborhood regularly play
relatively safely on the sidewalks and even in the streets (certainly true on my street, Northumberland
Ave). While I dontt know all the children or families in the neighborhood, I recognize them and know to
exercise caution especially in certain places as I drive through the neighborhood. Will these
neighborhood guests know to use the same degree of caution?

There are many sales and service oriented businesses that I can imagine fitting in well at this location. A
bakery, for example, would draw a much wider range of residents from the Redwood Oaks
neighborhood who could walk to the business. Also, those two 20-minute parking spaces would work
reasonably well unless you had trouble deciding which baked goods to purchase. I strongly recommend
the planning department oppose the request for a permit for the massage parlor at 515 Woodside road
and search instead for a business more suitable and practical for the location.

Thanks again for making our message heard.

Sincerely,
Lori VanHouten, PhD
437 Northumberland Ave
Redwood Oaks Neighborhood

3/13/2009
