MINUTE ORDER
CITY COUNCIL MEETING

August 25, 1997
MO. 97-173

CITY CLERK DEPARTMENT
Redwood City

DATE: August 28, 1997

Attention: City Manager
City Attorney
Council

SUBJECT: Most Advantageous Day to Conduct Council Meetings (205)
Meeting of the Council of the City of Redwood City on August 25, 1997.

Present: Councilmembers Buchan, Claire, Howard, La Berge, Leipzig
and Mayor Hartnett

Absent: Ruskin

The following motion was made, carried and entered on the Minutes:

Councilman Leipzig expressed support to conduct Council meetings on a day
other than Monday. Referring to a possible conflict with meetings of Council
appointed boards, committees and commissions, Councilman Leipzig said if the
Council decided to change days, the Council appointed boards, committees and
commissions could change their meeting days if they wished.. He added that a
Tuesday meeting in the new City Hall Chamber would be a new start and might
increase attendance. He said the conflict with Monday night football possibly
keeps some attendees away from Council meetings. He also suggested
changing the time to 7:00 p.m.

Councilwoman La Berge said she had lived in Redwood City for 35 years, and
Council meetings had always been on Monday nights. She said it's a tradition,
and it would be difficult for her to make that change, and probably for many
others in the community as well. Councilwoman La Berge said changing days
might cause a conflict with other meetings, and traditions are very important to
a community. She said she did not see a terribly important reason to make such
a change.
