The proposed business will occupy a 1,150 square <br />foot ground-floor commercial tenant space (with an attached 495 sq. ft. one-car garage) in a <br />two-story 2,845 square foot building. The second floor of this building contains a 1,200 square <br />foot (two bedroom, two bath) apartment. The subject tenant space would consist of four private <br />therapy rooms, staff lounge, waiting area, office, restrooms and a laundry room. The site is <br />approximately 3,049 square feet and is located in the General Commercial-Residential (CG-R) <br />Zoning District. <br /> <br />Consistent with City Policy, all businesses that provide massage must follow a three-step <br />process in order to offer massage services. The three steps include: <br />1. Zoning Verification from the Planning Division in writing. <br />a. The General Commercial-Residential (CG-R) Zoning District allows personal <br />services after the completing the three-step process. The Zoning Permit Letter <br />was issued to the applicant on November 17, 2008. <br />2. Apply for and obtain all the necessary clearance from the Redwood City Police <br />Department. These background checks apply to not only the establishment and <br />business owner, but also all massage technicians who will be employed by the business. <br />The applicant completed the second step and obtained the permits from the Redwood <br />City Police Department on January 27,2009. <br />3. The applicant shall apply for and obtain a Use Permit from the Planning Division. The <br />Use Permit process includes an in-depth analysis of the proposed project. This review <br />also includes, but is not limited to compatibility with adjoining land uses, hours of <br />operation, adequacy of parking, previous uses on-site, and obtaining neighborhood input <br /> <br />Page 1 of 5 <br />
