08/10/2009
Saltworks 50150 Balanced Plan -- ,Executive Summary
Overview of Application Submittal & Statement of Justification
May 2009
Page 6
Additionally, the 50150 Balanced Plan includes a more than 50 -acre Sports
Complex improved with at least 15 sports fields (e.g., soccer, baseball, softball,
etc.). And, of course, the 50/50 Balanced Plan provides for over 400 acres of
actively restored tidal marsh habitats.
3. Community Facilities
Community facilities highlighted in the Statement of Justification include:
Schools. Saltworks envisions the potential need for as many as four new
elementary and one middle school appropriately distributed within the
Saltworks Site. Design of these facilities would reflect experts' evolving views
on curriculum and related physical configuration of urban campuses.
• Branch Library
+ 4 -H Club and Farm
• Community Garden /Edible School Yard
• Interpretive Environmental Education Center
• Tidal Marsh Restoration and Research Center
• Fire Station
• Place of Worship
4. Circulation
As a grounding principle, -the 50/50 Balanced Plan is designed to get cars off of
the road, not only as to future residents, but to alleviate existing congestion.
Simply placing a meaningful array of housing options near existing employment
centers is a tremendous start.
Building from there, the 50/50 Balanced Plan aggressively explores the potential
for public /private partnerships -- leveraging Saltworks' own private investment
commitments -- for everything from a permanent transit system integrating the
Saltworks Site with core City -wide destinations to home -to -work direct shuttle
programs with major employment campuses to innovative ride -share programs.
And as to existing circulation challenges (typified by the U.S. 101/woodside
interchange), the 50 /50 Balanced Plan reallocates traffic loads by establishing a
new parallel capacity road to U.S. 101 on the north, and similar proposed parallel
14958
MUFF # 601
