Zoning Ordinance amendments related to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)
Date: Monday, March 8, 20213:23:29 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when
opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Dear City Council: Mayor and Council Members: Appreciate your hard work
during the covid time. This is in regard to emergency ordinance regulations for
ADU
Public Comment: 9.A. Zoning Ordinance amendments related to Accessory
Dwelling Units (ADU).
I Request you all to please reject this additional regulation from staff and planning
commissioner on height restriction:
Please Reject the 16 foot maximum height for detached ADUs and attached
ADUs encroaching within the rear yard setback proposed by the staff
The state states the city should allow a minimum of 16 ft height. But the staff is
using this 16 ft as a ceiling. This clearly is an attempt by the city to limit/ban the
ADU construction in the city.
It is not possible to build a usable second story at 16 ft height
This regulation is not good for homeowners who want to build a second story ADU.
1 This regulation will force homeowners to build a single story ADU instead of a
garage with a second story ADU.
With no garages there will be more cars on the street elevating already existing
parking problems. The city has completely ignored the parking problem in their
proposal.
2 Second story ADU is not possible with a height limit of 16 ft. This low height
does not give comfortable, usable and livable space.
3. This height limit, limits designs to match the architecture of the main house. City
added attached ADU's. This height limit should also not apply to attached second
story ADU's within state setback and guidelines.
4. There was no public awareness done as the draft was sent in at the last
