manager doesn't do it
• 2021: C/CAP San Mateo County Bike Backbone Network (in the works), but city manager
doesn't do it.
• ... and I'm sure there are more.
All these plans come to a combination of conclusions that look like this:
• East/West Corridor: Buffered Bike Lanes on Brewster all the way from Alamade De Las
Pulgas to Inner Harbor via 101 Underpass
• West/East Corridor: Buffered Bike Lanes on Roosevelt all the way from EI Camino to Fernside
(this is a major Safe -Routes -To -School)
If the new district 4 candidate is worth anything to the community, he makes that happen,
since this is a major Transportation Equity project.
• North/South Corridor: Buffered Bike Lanes on Middlefield Rd. towards Old County Rd. - aka
Peninsula Bikeway East.
• North/South Corridor: Buffered Bike Lanes on Alameda De Las Pulgas (this is a major
commute, recreational and safe -routes corridor) - aka Peninsula Bikeway West.
• More Safe -Routes -To -School bike lanes on Hudson, Redwood, Oak, Virginia, James, etc.
• Bay Trail as important regional Recreational Bikeway
• Bay -2 -Sea Trail as important regional Recreational Bikeway
( These are also all projects of the current Bike Plan called RWCMoves, )
Or in short, Redwood City has more bicycle plans than bicycle worthy streets.
It's 4 years in and our City Manager has not finished even one bicycle project out of RWCMoves.
The 2017 C/CAG plans says it best:
the curernt bicycle facilities have been created somewhat piecemeal and in uncoordinated
fashion.
Vision: A San Mateo County in which bicycling for both transportation and recreation is safe,
comfortable, and convenient.
Goal: Provide people with viable travel choices and encourage the use of healthy, active
transportation through a safe, continuous, convenient and comprehensive bi bicycling
network that reduces reliance on the automobile for short trips.
So how many organizations, jurisdictions and projects have urged the city manager, staff and
council over the years to build bicycle lanes?
Organizations that want you to start building Bike Lanes
C/CAG
RWC2020
RWC Safe -Routes -To -School
SMC Safe -Routes -To -School (SRTS)
Federal Safe Routes to School (SRTS)
Safe Routes to Transit (SR2T)
