During the
meeting, City Council discussed the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) through all -electric
building requirements in consideration with other policy goals. On September 21, 2020, City Council
adopted the Reach Codes. On December 9, 2020, California Energy Commission adopted a resolution
approving the City's application to enforce the Reach Codes.
The City recognizes the importance of reducing natural gas consumption through energy usage in
buildings. The Reach Codes support the City's sustainability goals by incentivizing all -electric construction
in new buildings, with certain exceptions. On January 28, 2021 the California Building Standards
Commission requested the City express findings for each amendment, addition or deletion based upon
climatic, topographical or geological conditions. The attached resolution addresses that request.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
62
