While this is a considerable amount of savings we now must continue the
program without the position responsible for fund raising and managing after school
programs for elementary school children. The Parks Recreation and Community
Services Department has offered to be the contract provider for developing and
managing an after school program at the PAL building. The agreement will be between
the PAL board and the PRCS Department to serve a minimum of 48 children each day,
after school and throughout the school year. Additionally, the PRCS Department will be
partnering with PAL to develop teen programs and other youth development offerings
that will be within the PAL building. The PAL after school program is set to begin on
September 8th.

As budgetary considerations move us to focus more directly on core services, the
enhanced involvement of the Parks Recreation and Community Services Department is
a welcome development and one that will benefit the PAL program.

6
