6.N. - Page 2 of 20 <br />A community survey was conducted to gauge public sentiment for a hazard pay ordinance, and support <br />for the ordinance was registered at 67%, with 33% not in support. Business outreach to large grocery and <br />drugstore workers yielded mostly positive responses to a hazard pay ordinance by store managers, with <br />some indicating concerns for the amount of hazard pay required and the store's ability to remain open <br />with such an increase. <br />City Council both adopted the Urgency Ordinance and introduced a regular Ordinance at the April 12, <br />2021 City Council meeting, and that staff report contains additional background information and analysis <br />(Attachment B). <br />The subject regular Ordinance, if adopted, will take effect 30 days later on May 26, 2021 and supersede <br />the Urgency Ordinance. The Regular Ordinance will expire on July 11, 2021, unless earlier reenacted. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The adoption of the regular Ordinance will not have a material impact on the City's budget. It is expected <br />that staff resources would continue to be needed to field anticipated questions from the community and <br />explain the different provisions of the ordinance.
