6.N. - Page 1 of 20 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: April 26, 2021 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Waive second reading and adopt an ordinance to require hazard pay in the amount of $5.00 per hour for <br />employees of large grocery stores and large drugstores <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Waive second reading and adopt an ordinance requiring hazard pay in the amount of $5.00 per hour for <br />public facing employees of large grocery stores and large drugstores. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Equity <br />BACKGROUND <br />On April 12, 2021, the City Council adopted an Urgency Ordinance and introduced a regular Ordinance <br />(Attachment A) hazard pay in the amount of $5.00 per hour for employees of large grocery stores and <br />large drugstores to expire on July 11, 2021 unless earlier reenacted. <br />ANALYSIS <br />Grocery store and drugstore workers have been considered essential workers and have continued to <br />report to work and serve their communities, despite the ongoing hazards of COVID-19, helping to ensure <br />the Redwood City community has had access to the food they need during this pandemic.
