In addition to supporting housing production and preservation activities the City funds fair housing services that provides education and outreach, discrimination investigation and tenant landlord assistance. The City also continues to monitor its deed restricted affordable housing to ensure compliance with affordability terms. Actions planned to reduce lead-based paint hazards The City of Redwood will undertake lead-based paint hazard mitigation when required by the CDBG and HOME housing rehabilitation regulations. This can include inspection, risk assessment, specification writing, abatement, clean up, disposal work and clearance testing. This assistance will be in accordance with 24 CFR 35, et al. (9/15/99). A certified risk assessor will inspect all such housing. Actions planned to reduce the number of poverty -level families Tackling poverty is one of the most important factors in reducing social exclusion and improving the lives of our residents. This strategy is crucial for demonstrating the Redwood City's commitment to tackling poverty. The City, in partnership with surrounding communities and local social service and housing providers, will strive for the goals and strategies below to help households stay out of poverty or become self-sufficient and elevate themselves from living in poverty. • Promote economic empowerment by supporting facilities, services and activities aimed at developing the self-sufficiency for all low to moderate -income residents/. Programs and activities to be supported over the next year include youth services, healthcare and food banks. • Continue to work with local agencies to identify barriers and issues related to poverty and support programs that will help low to moderate -income households overcome those barriers. • The City will continue to work with the Continuum of Care to implement their work plan to comply with the HEARTH act, including reducing the number of poverty level families. The City will fund Redwood Family House with General Fund dollars to provide shelter, transitional housing and support services to help families become self-sufficient. Actions planned to develop institutional structure The City is a strong leader and participant in the development and ongoing support of various programs and initiatives constituting the delivery system. These strengths include extensive efforts to involve the community in identifying needs and trends, collaborative efforts with other jurisdictions to address regional issues, and the close working relationships with and support of the nonprofit sector in their important role in the overall health and strength of the community. Overcoming the experience gaps of each group requires only cooperation with other agencies or groups who have the necessary experience.
