24 <br /> <br />1. Ensure the transfer of any injured or sick animals to the animal shelter or veterinary <br />emergency hospital, or ensure that the owner (if present) of the animal seeks medical <br />treatment. <br />G. Field euthanasia <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Ensure that if euthanasia is necessary for a sick or injured wild animal while it is in the <br />field, the euthanasia shall be conducted by trained personnel with necessary equipment. <br />This service shall be available twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, 365 <br />days a year. <br />H. Investigations for animal bites, dangerous & vicious animal cases <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Conduct thorough investigations of dangerous or vicious animals, which shall include <br />interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, writing reports, taking photos, requesting <br />related information and securing search warrants to impound a vicious or dangerous dog, <br />making initial designations as dangerous or vicious, and testifying at hearings. This <br />investigation should be completed, and the report and all supporting information <br />presented to the County, at least three (3) calendar days ahead of the scheduled hearing. <br />Contractor, pertaining to Contractor’s duties as outlined herein, will follow the applicable <br />County and Participating City ordinances. <br />2. Investigate municipal code violation complaints within the jurisdictional boundaries of <br />the Participating Cities and the unincorporated County pertaining to Contractor’s duties <br />as outlined herein. This includes, but is not limited to, interviewing witnesses, collecting <br />evidence, taking photos, writing reports, requesting related information and securing <br />search warrants, issuing citations, and participating in hearings or court proceedings as <br />needed for potential impoundment and/or prosecution. Officers will work closely with the <br />City Attorney or County District Attorney as applicable. <br />I. Removal of dead animals <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Remove dead animals from the public right-of-way, except freewa ys and/or highways, <br />which are maintained by CALTRANS. <br />2. Remove stray dead domestic animals from private property for no charge. <br />3. Remove owned domestic dead animals at the request of owner with a charge to the <br />member of the public requesting the service, as set forth in the Fee Schedule. All such <br />fees collected by the Contractor shall be remitted to the County. <br />4. Pick up and dispose of any dead animal on any street, sidewalk, school, or other public <br />property. <br />5. In cases where animal contact meets the criteria for rabies testing, pick up dead or live <br />wildlife on private property.
