13 <br /> <br />III. SHELTER SERVICES <br />A. Receiving animals <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Hold lost and stray animals for the requisite time period as required by State law or <br />County ordinance or other applicable local ordinance prior to adoption, owner <br />redemption, release to a partner organization, euthanasia, or other disposition. <br />2. Ensure that each animal’s individual health status is evaluated and monitored <br />beginning at intake and regularly thereafter. If the animal is too unsafe to handle to have <br />its health status evaluated a visual evaluation may be done by staff. <br />3. Ensure all animals are scanned for a microchip and checked for other identification <br />when entering the County Shelter and ensure staff enter into the Chameleon (or any <br />successor system) software that the animal was checked for ID. Animals that are unsafe <br />to be scanned for a microchip may be excluded. <br />4. Solicit information on impounded stray animals. <br />5. Evaluate and document each animal’s health at intake. <br />6. Provide shelter and care for domestic animals under rabies quarantine, and dangerous <br />or vicious animal investigations, according to the applicable City/County ordinance and/or <br />State law. <br />7. When there is reasonable belief of a person’s or an animal’s exposure to rabies, <br />Contractor will immediately notify County Public Health personnel at 650.573.2346, 8am- <br />5pm, M-F or 650.363.4981 after hours/holidays (or at such other numbers as may be <br />designated in writing, from time to time). <br />8. If the Contractor plans on using drop boxes for after-hours intake, the drop boxes must <br />be checked at least every hour during the hours that drop boxes are utilized for animal <br />intake. <br />B. Care of animals <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Provide shelter and care for San Mateo County stray and unwanted animals 24 hours <br />a day, 7 days a week, with public service hours designed to benefit the public and <br />facilitate the services established in this Agreement, including coordination with other <br />agencies (state and local governments, or adoption partner organizations, non-profit <br />animal services organizations, etc.) where appropriate. <br />2. Provide services as required by the State of California governing shelters for animal <br />care, treatment, holding periods, and placements and dispositions. <br />3. Microchip all animals designated as Dangerous prior to release if medically appropriate <br />and owner is compliant. In the instance of a non-compliant owner, Contractor shall <br />attempt at the first annual inspection of the owner’s property to ascertain that the animal <br />has in fact been microchipped as required by County Ordinance and shall report their <br />findings to County in a timely fashion. <br />4. Provide animal food that meets nutritional and medical needs of animals. <br /> <br /> <br />   <br />   <br />
