Contractor will make a best effort to have the County Shelter open by 11 am each day, <br />except holidays (as noted in Attachment L - Peninsula Humane Society Holidays), with all <br />animal areas intended for public access clean and ready for the public to enter. <br />6. Provide County representatives with a master schedule for Animal Care staff upon <br />request. <br />C. Owner-surrendered animals <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Provide pet owners with a handout(s) describing alternative solutions to surrender and <br />other resources to owners who express a desire to surrender their pets. That handout <br />should include contact information for non-profit shelters and rescue groups in the Bay <br />Area, as well as information about pet food pantries, low cost veterinary care, etc. <br />2. List alternatives to surrendering a pet and links to helpful resources on the Contractor’s <br />website. <br />D. Identifying animals <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Make legally required and additional efforts to identify each animal’s rightful owner, <br />including, at a minimum, full microchip body scanning of domestic animals for <br />identification chips, tracing microchips, licenses, rabies tags and other identification, and <br />making several documented attempts in multiple ways (e.g. phone, email, and/or mail) to <br />notify the owner in an attempt to return the animal to its owner prior to any other <br />disposition. Maintain acumen on and utilize developments in the field that might provide <br />new or additional methods for identifying each animal’s rightful owner. <br />E. Evaluating animals <br />Contractor will: <br />1. Ensure that all healthy, non-aggressive, and treatable animals have a plan for a live <br />outcome. <br />2. Begin assessment of behavior at the time of intake of the animal. An overall behavior <br />assessment considers all of the information gathered about the animal, including history, <br />behavior during shelter stay, and formal evaluation. <br />3. Provide and apply the criteria and evaluation system that will enable objective <br />evaluations for animals. <br />4. Evaluate all breeds equally to determine if they can be adopted, require behavior <br />modification, or allow a partner agency to take the animal prior to euthanasia pursuant to <br />State law. <br />5. Maintain evaluation records. Document the procedure for each animal in the <br />Chameleon software system (or any successor system). If any paper records are also <br />kept, retain the records for seven (7) years after disposition of animal. <br />6. Perform kennel enrichment programs to reduce stress for sheltered animals. <br />7. Place adoptable animals up for adoption or transfer. <br /> <br /> <br />   <br />   <br />
