Menlo Park - Haven Avenue Study Site

The Menlo Park - Haven
Avenue Site, located at 3633-
3655 Haven Avenue in the
city of Menlo Park,
encompasses 4.7 acres.
Redwood City's corporate
boundary follows Haven
Avenue; thus, this site is
located across the street
from Redwood City. U.S.
Highway 101 passes north-
south just to the west, and
the salt harvesting ponds to
the east (just visible in the
adjacent aerial photo) transition to San Francisco Bay. The site is currently vacant and located in an
industrial area, as shown on the aerial photo. High-tension power lines cross the center of the site.

Access to San Mateo County Superior Court

Menlo Park is located adjacent to Redwood City. To get to the San Mateo Superior Court from the Haven
Avenue Site, the 101 Freeway would provide the quickest route. The 101 Freeway Marsh Road ramp is
immediately to the south, accessible via Haven Avenue. Taking this route, vehicles would travel 3.6 miles to
the court, with a travel time of approximately seven minutes.

An alternative to the freeway route is Bay Road (see Figure 3). Taking this route, a vehicle would travel the
4.1 miles, with a travel time of approximately 14 minutes.

Surrounding Uses

The site is located in an industrial area of Menlo Park. Varied industrial businesses operate adjacent to the
site and across Haven Avenue in Redwood City. North of the site is a public storage warehouse and a flood
control channel connected with the San Francisco Bay. Bay Front Park is located just northeast of the site.
A mobile home park is located one-quarter mile to the north in unincorporated San Mateo County (within
Redwood City's sphere of influence). The Friendly Acres Neighborhood, a residential area in Redwood City,
is located immediately across the U.S. 101.

General Plan Land Use Designations

The city of Menlo Park's General Plan Land Use Plan designates the site as Limited Industrial. The Menlo
Park General Plan describes this category as follows:

50

Site I nformation for Alternative Locations for the Proposed Replacement Jail
September 2, 2009
