<br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> <br />A. Presentation: Ceremonial Swearing-In of Newly Appointed Commission and <br />Committee Members <br /> <br />City Clerk Vonderlinden performed the oaths of office for the three newly appointed <br />Boards, Commission and Committee members. <br /> <br />B. Proclamation: Bangkok Bay Thai Cuisine's "Sweet 16" - 16th Anniversary <br /> <br />The owners of Bangkok Bay Thai Cuisine Restaurant were present to receive the <br />proclamation. The full Council joined the Mayor in a photo opportunity. <br /> <br />C. Presentation: Recognition of Redwood City Library: <br /> <br />1. Commendation from the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors - Kathy <br />Endaya, Project Read Director <br /> <br />2. Recognitions for Redwood Shores Branch Library - Brian Lee, Acting <br />Supervisory Civil Engineer and Liz Meeks, Library Manager <br /> <br />Mayor Foust announced the Trivia Bee event which will take place on October 16, 2009. <br />She covered a plethora of different awards and honorable mentions that the Redwood City <br />Library Department recently received. The Council shared its pride in this Department and <br />all it does for the betterment and education of the community. Mayor Foust also <br />acknowledged those in the audience who are affiliated with the Library. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />Public Comment: <br />Robert Slusser, from the Peninsula Celebration Association, gave some historical <br />information on the association that organizes the 4th of July parade in Redwood City. He <br />clarified how this association was founded, and how the parade has benefited the <br />community for over seven decades. He said that there has been loss in income and they <br />have had to dip into reserves for the parade, and that they primarily need financial help, <br />and will do community outreach for assistance. He provided their contact information <br />which can be found at www.parade.ora or 650-365-1825. <br /> <br />Steven Long spoke about Segway polo, his appreciation for this sport and thanked Vice <br />Mayor Howard and the staff at Red Morton Center for their support in providing space to <br />practice. He announced that he had won two trophies at the International Segway Polo <br />Association event in Cologne, Germany. <br /> <br />Tom Mohr, President of Canada College, said they serve over 7,000 students, which is a <br />17% increase from last year, and that there are an increasingly large number of Redwood <br />City students.
