Analysis of Five Sites

Of the seven alternative replacement jail sites now under focused consideration by the Sheriff's Office} two
are located within the City of Redwood City and three lie just outside the City}s boundaries in the cities of
Menlo Park and San Carlos. Those five sites examined in this section are:

· Redwood City - San Mateo County Motor Pool Site in Downtown
· Redwood City - Closed Dodge Dealership Site on Veterans Boulevard} on the edge of Downtown
and at a prime City gateway location
· Menlo Park - Haven Avenue Study Site
· San Carlos -Industrial Road Study Site
· San Carlos - Shoreway Road Study Site

The discussion on the following pages provides information for each site regarding:

· Existing land uses on and surrounding the site
· General Plan land use designations and applicable general plan policies
· Existing and proposed zoning
· Access to the San Mateo County Superior Court
· Advantages and disadvantages of the site for the replacement jail

The discussion of surrounding uses provides a context for each study site. Discussion of other
general plan policies describes each city} s broader vision for the area in which the particu lar site is located.
Zoning districts identify the primary regulatory mechanisms that will be used to implement land use policy
and the vision. Proximity and access to the San Mateo Superior Court building is provided to indicate the
ease of transport of prisoners from the replacement jail to the courts for arraignment and trial.

Redwood City - San Mateo County Motor Pool Study Site

The San Mateo County Motor
Pool Study Site is located in
historic Downtown Redwood
City} at the corner of Brewster
Avenue and Veterans Boulevard}
between Winslow Street}
Middlefield Road} and County
Center. The site is located on a
block where many San Mateo
County buildings and facilities are
located. The majority of the site
is currently used as surface
parking that serves San Mateo
County Superior Court jurors and other County facilities. A portion of the site along Winslow Street includes
a small maintenance structure and additional parking.
