<br />facilities} including a large parking structure that serves County office buildings} the County Office Building <br />at 455 County Center} and the "Our PlaceJJ Child Care Center. <br /> <br />Access to San Mateo County Superior Court <br /> <br />The site is less than one-quarter mile from the San Mateo County Superior Court} Southern Branch: Hall of <br />Justice and Records. The County Office Building at 455 County Center is located between the Hall of the <br />Justice and the site study area. According to the Sheriffs Office} this proximity may allow for a below-grade <br />tunnel or other potential access route. The site study area is also in close proximity to the Brendan P. <br />Maguire Correctional Facility at 300 Bradford Street (see Figure 2). <br /> <br />Surrounding Uses <br /> <br />Directly across the street from the County Motor Pool Site are residential uses on Brewster Avenue. <br />Brewster Avenue is the eastern border of the Mezesville historic neighborhood. This neighborhood contains <br />many historic homes dating to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; most are one- and two-story} <br />wood-frame homes that exhibit a variety of architectural styles. Multiple homes in the neighborhood and <br />on this stretch of Brewster Avenue are locally designated as historically significant and protected as <br />landmarks. The Mezesville historic neighborhood} also known by residents as the Centennial Neighborhood} <br />is a cohesive neighborhood anchored by a school and park. Due to its close proximity to Downtown} this <br />area was Redwood City}s first residential neighborhood. Located two blocks south of the study site are the <br />Old Courthouse} Fox Theatre} and other historic Downtown buildings on Broadway. <br /> <br />Across Winslow Street from the Motor Pool Site are office buildings and a vacant lot} for which the City has <br />received an application for high-density housing. Across both Veterans Boulevard and Middlefield Road are <br />several office buildings and surface parking lots that serve the area (see Figure 2). <br /> <br />General Plan Land Use Designations <br /> <br />Redwood City is nearing completion of its New General Plan} which has been in development since 2004. <br />Through extensive community engagement} the City has developed a New General Plan that reflects <br />community values and goals. This process involved a thorough review of existing uses and a process to <br />define future approaches to growth and development in Redwood City. Overall} Redwood City}s goal is to <br />create a sustainable community comprised of complete Neighborhoods} Centers} and Corridors} with <br />Downtown Redwood City representing the key Center. Through this process} the City has identified desired <br />land uses for Downtown and surrounding areas.
