This was the 21 S' Pride and Beautification Awards ceremony and Vice Mayor Howard introduced members of the committee present in the audience. Vice Mayor Howard then thanked staff from the City Manager Department and former Mayor La Berge. She also thanked a cadre of volunteers who assisted in the selection of nominees. Mayor Foust and Executive Assistant La Croix presented the awards as Vice Mayor Howard called each of the recipients' names. Vice Mayor Howard acknowledged a special award in memory of Lucy Muhlker - Community Dedication Award - that is only given out under special circumstances. This award was presented to Pat Sehl for her Community Dedication to beautifying the streets of Redwood City. Vice Mayor Howard made comments about Ms. Sehl being a role model and an inspiration to many. B. Proclamation: Graniterock Company for its Support of Redwood City's "Aqua Terra" Project - Rich Sacher, Division Manager of Asphalt Vice Mayor Howard honored Graniterock a 100-year old company that has a large operation in Redwood City. Mayor Foust read from the proclamation and thanked them for being a role model of cooperation between the private and public sectors. A representative from Graniterock thanked the community and the Council for their efforts in partnering with the private sector. Mr. Bob Hoffman was also recognized for his dedication to the cleaning of the waterways and derelict vessels. Vice Mayor Howard was then recognized for her dedication to this committee. Mr. Gino Gasparini and Ms. Stacey Wagner presented Vice Mayor Howard with a plaque of appreciation. 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR Public Comment: Stacey Wagner with Greenhouse homeowners association thanked the City for its support in providing grants to this type of association. She shared her pride in being a resident in a community that has so much to offer. Janet Larson, with the Woodside-Atherton Garden Club, thanked the Council for the Pride and Beautification Awards. She expressed her concerns with the Cargill proposal and opined that the integrity of the city might be at stake with this proposal. It is her view that the current application would put stress on existing infrastructure. Maureen Poms expressed her concerns with the state of affairs at the state level. She commented that a state or country that has "open borders" cannot survive. She believes that California has catered to undocumented residents and it is taking its toll. Phil Poms expressed his concerns with a recent DUI (driving under the influence) checkpoint. He said it is not clear if politics entered into the situation. Mr. Poms shared details of an accident with an undocumented resident. He believes the Police Department needs to be supported.
