REV: 02-16-24 SK
Task 7 – Optional Geotechnical Investigation and Report for $19,800 LS
•Upon written task authorization from City, Consultant will subcontract Haley &
Aldrich to obtain site specific geotechnical design parameter data and
recommendations for the Project.
•Prior to completing the subsurface exploration, City will obtain permits from San
Mateo County Environmental Health Services Division and the exploration
locations marked for Underground Service Alert (USA).
•Prior to completing the subsurface exploration, City will coordinate with adjacent
private property owner.
•During subsurface exploration, City staff will be onsite to provide site access.
Consultant will explore the subsurface conditions in the vicinity of Project area by
drilling and sampling geotechnical one (1) boring along the top of the channel with
the right-of-way. This exploration will be performed by the Consultant team. The
borings will be drilled using a portable Minuteman drilling rig equipped with solid
flight augers. Samples of the site materials will be recovered from the borings using
California Modified and/or Standard Penetration samples by Consultant. Selected
samples recovered from the borings will be returned to the Consultant team’s soils
testing laboratory for index properties, consolidation testing, and/or strength
testing.
•It is estimated that borings will be advanced to between approximately 20 and 35
feet deep or approximately 10 feet below anticipated temporary shoring pile
depths. Soil cuttings will be collected by the Consultant’s team in drums and
disposed of in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations. Work
anticipated to dispose of the cuttings assumes that the cuttings will be classified
as non-hazardous materials.
•Exploration work is subject to prevailing wage and is reflective of the task budget.
•The results from the field exploration, laboratory testing, and background research
will be used by Consultant as the basic for development of geotechnical design
parameters for replacement of concrete channels. Seismic accelerations will be
provided using USGS data and CalTrans methods in lieu of site-specific soil
acceleration analysis. Consultant will prepare a memo, which will include the
following:
o Introduction including site location, description, and purpose of the
investigation.
o Subsurface conditions and geology.
o Loading and groundwater design criteria for temporary shoring and
permanent structure design.
o Analysis and channel design recommendations.
o Boring logs and test results from the exploration programs, and .
o Findings and geotechnical recommendations pertaining to the design
parameters for the planned project.
•Deliverables: A copy of the Geotechnical Design Memorandum will be provided to
the City.
ATTY/AGR.2024.016/Wood Rodgers, Inc.
