Page 2 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />Disabilities Act (ADA), would express the City Council’s official sentiment of recognition and support for <br />the disability community. <br />Annually on July 26, the City celebrates National Disability Day, a recognition identified through the <br />development of the Redwood City Equity Plan. Under the leadership of the City’s IDEAL (Inclusion, <br />Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Leadership) Program, with input from the City Council’s Equity and <br />Social Justice Sub-Committee, the City has identified cultural events and awareness days/months to be <br />recognized through special programming or City Council action such as proclamations. The list of annual <br />recognitions is not exhaustive; a range of other cultural celebrations and acknowledgements take place <br />every year in Redwood City. Further, staff revisits the list of recognitions on a bi-monthly basis to ensure <br />continued equity and inclusivity in City policies and practices. At the time the list was initially developed <br />the Equity and Social Justice Sub-Committee did not review the City’s Flag Policy. Staff will schedule a <br />discussion with the Sub-Committee later this year to determine whether any refinements should be made <br />to the Flag Policy or the programming associated with cultural events and awareness days/months. <br />The attached resolution (Attachment A) would authorize the display of the Disability Pride flag at <br />Courthouse Square from July 16-26, 2024. The City anticipates holding a ceremony at Courthouse Square <br />on July 16 associated with the flag raising and encourages all Redwood City community members to join <br />in celebrating the progress made toward inclusion and honor the experiences of those living with <br />disabilities. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Development of this resolution and report and recognition of cultural events and awareness days are all <br />activities funded by the General Fund, accommodated within existing budget allocations. No additional <br />funding is required. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br />This activity is not a project under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as defined in CEQA <br />Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or reasonably <br />foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. <br />PUBLIC NOTICE <br />Public notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72 <br />hours prior to the meeting. <br />6.E. - Page 2 of 6 <br />40
