Learn why this is important
Re: 112 Vera Ave Project (APN: 053-064-130)
DPC2024-002
Dear Planning Department and all Redwood City Residents,
I am a Redwood City resident since 1992. I live at 163 Madison Ave/ 803
Adams St, in the building my grandmother built in 1958, and where she
lived the second half of her life. I moved in when I went to college, and
never left. And I am now reconsidering my extended residency here. In
fact, I am actively trying to move out of Redwood City.
Not because I’m a NIMBY (not in my backyard), although the 112 Vera
project is quite literally in my back yard (my building shares that alley
way)… but because of the outrageous and ridiculously irresponsible impact
this building, as presented, will have on the already non-existing parking
in this neighborhood. The parking was already bad in 1992, when I moved
in. Since then, it has gotten exponentially worse, year after year.
There is another already approved building going in at 1330 El Camino
Real, consisting of 130 Residential units, and only 110 parking spaces,
approximately half of which will be on electronic lifts… so watch out if the
power goes out. I protested that project due to parking as well. And I have
to say, that while I know better than to think a less-than 1:1 ratio of
parking is enough, it actually looks responsible compared to what’s being
proposed at 112 Vera.
Let me make myself quite clear. I am not protesting low income and high
density housing. PLEASE build it. But PLEASE PLEASE be responsible about
it. I am a former Bay Area teacher. Yes. Build it.
I am protesting the lack of parking. 178 Units, and only 6 parking spaces
for staff. It is downright stupidity to believe that the occupants of low
income housing will not own vehicles. You can make every argument that
the 178 units a 112 Vera are only a half mile to Caltrain and to grocery
shopping… but people in the Bay Area own cars. And I want to know where
you think those extra 350+ cars are going to go? There are already 100+
cars that will be added to our neighborhood from 1330 El Camino building,
where they won’t be able to park, because almost every unit will own more
than 1 car. That building is 1 block closer to Caltrain. That also does not
matter. Those occupants will also own cars. And those cars also have
nowhere to go… but into our neighborhood, which is already saturated
