Learn why this is important
Dear Mayor Gee, Vice Mayor Espinoza-Garnica, and Councilmembers Aguirre, Eakin,
Howard, Martinez Saballos, and Sturken,

I am writing to express support for the exemption of all child care businesses from the
Business License Tax as proposed under Item 7A on this evening’s Council meeting
agenda. The San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council conducted a child care
needs assessment in 2022, and found that there was an estimated shortage of 2,400 child
care spaces for children ages 0-12 in Redwood City. By exempting all child care
businesses from the Business License Tax, the City of Redwood City would be removing a
barrier to developing and sustaining key child care infrastructure for Redwood City families.

Thank you for your consideration of this item.

Sincerely,
Sarah Kinahan

Sarah Kinahan
(she, her)
Coordinator, Child Care Partnership Council

650.802.5647 - Phone
skinahan@smcoe.org

101 Twin Dolphin Drive
Redwood City, CA 94065
www.smcoe.org
