ATTY/RESO.0033/HRAC 413 ALDEN STREET
REV: 06-02-22 JB
The City asked their architectural historian consultant (M-Group) to evaluate the
proposed addition (Attachment 3) under the Secretary of Interior Standards. The report
included design recommendations, to ensure that the addition is differentiated from the
original structure and that the addition should be clad, at least on the front and side
elevations, with a material that is different than, but compatible with, the existing
materials.

The applicant has complied with the recommendation of the architectural
historian by providing a subtle change in texture and material, proposing an addition
clad with stucco finish and color matching to the existing structure. As proposed the
addition is secondary and compatible to the existing structure as well as the historic
district. Additionally, the site consists of trees, landscaping and fencing which help to
minimize the proposed addition’s visual impact. Therefore, staff finds that the project
does not adversely affect the character of the district. No other changes are proposed to
the exterior of the existing home.

C. In the case of construction of a new improvement, building, or
structure upon a historic site, the exterior of such improvements will not
adversely affect and will be compatible with the external appearance of existing
designated improvements, buildings, and structures on said site.

Not applicable, the property is not a historic site.

Section 2. The HRAC hereby recommends that the Planning Commission
approve the Permit for the Project consistent with the Historic Preservation Ordinance.

Section 3. This Resolution is effective upon its adoption.

* * *
