Fire Department Knox Building Access – Knox Key boxes are required as part of this <br />project to allow emergency access for firefighters to all buildings and garages. Indicate on the <br />plans that Knox Key boxes will be provided at the entrances to all buildings at locations approved <br />by the fire department. Recessed key boxes shall be installed at the entrances to all buildings five <br />to six feet above finished grade. In addition, all gates shall have Knox Key Switches installed CFC <br />506. [COA][FIRE] <br /> <br />72. Aerial Fire Apparatus Access Lanes. For access to structures on-site, which exceed 30 feet <br />in height, the minimum width of the required aerial fire apparatus access lanes shall comply with <br />California Fire Code Section D105.2 at 26 feet in width and 13.6 feet in clear vertical height <br />clearance with no obstructions. At least one of the required aerial fire apparatus access routes <br />meeting this condition shall be located within a minimum of 15 feet and a maximum of 30 feet <br />from each building, and shall be positioned parallel to the entire long axis side of the building as <br />per 2019 CFC D105.3. [COA][FIRE] <br /> <br />73. Fire Apparatus Access Roads - Fire apparatus access roads shall extend to within 150 feet <br />of all portions of the facilities and all portions of the exterior walls of the first story of the buildings <br />as measured by an approved hose pull route around the exterior of the buildings CFC 503.1.1. <br />[COA][FIRE] <br /> <br />a. There are portions of buildings that are not within the required 150-foot distance, <br />automatic wet standpipe connections located around the exterior of the buildings in <br />addition to within the stairwells on the intermediate landings will be considered as an <br />approved alternative. <br /> <br />b. Fire apparatus access roads shall be designed and maintained to support the <br />imposed loads of fire apparatus and shall be surfaced so as to provide all weather driving <br />capabilities 503.2.3. <br /> <br />c. All weather is defined as Asphaltic Concrete or Concrete. The concrete may be <br />stamped and / or pervious as long as it is engineered to support the imposed loads of the <br />fire apparatus at 75,000 pounds. <br /> <br />74. Rescue and Escape Windows – Provide ladder access to sleeping room rescue and escape <br />windows up to the fourth floors in the form of 4 foot by 4-foot ladder pads with clear access paths <br />for firefighters to carry ladders to them. [COA][FIRE] <br /> <br />a. The revised plans indicate ladder pads adjacent to the building. They need to be <br />setback from the building to achieve a 75-degree climbing angle. <br /> <br />b. The plans indicate that the ladder pads are set back 4 feet from the building. <br /> <br />c. Defined paths of travel for firefighters to be able to carry ground ladders to each <br />ladder pad are provided by means of a walking path on one side but no defined clear path <br />of travel on the other side.
