JOHANNA STREET, ARCHITECT Page 2
As part of the creation of the Downtown Precise Plan a reconnaissance level survey was
undertaken to identify historic resources. 1100 El Camino was one of forty properties
identified by the survey as “Historic Resources to Be Preserved.” A DPR (Department of
Parks and Recreation) form, dated 2010, was prepared for the property that concluded
that the building was a California Register Status Code 5S3; appears to be individually
eligible for local listing or designation through survey evaluation. The style of the
building identified on the form is Modern/ Roadside Architecture. The period of
significance is indicated as 1941-present “as the building’s function, association and
architectural design features remain unchanged since the time of construction.” And the
building was described as in excellent condition.
Figure 2. Front elevation of subject property. View looking north.
No character-defining features were listed on the DPR form but the following are
included in the description:
Concrete block exterior walls (stucco-clad on the front and Harrison Avenue
elevations)1
Flat roof with parapet
Distinctive metal sign with curved arrow reading “Roy’s Drive-in Cleaners”
Brick veneer
1 The author added information in parenthesis.
ATTY/RESO.0074/ PC APPROVING DOWNTOWN PLANNED COMMUNITY PERMIT FOR PROJECT AT 1100 EL CAMINO REAL
REV: 07-11-2023 JB
