<br />ATTY/RESO.0051/CC RESO MEASURE A & W PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE PROGRAM CYCLE 7 <br />REV: 08-16-24 VR <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />RESOLUTION NO. _____ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY SUPPORTING THE VERA AVENUE PERMANENTE BICYCLE <br />BOULEVARD PROJECT AND JAMES AVENUE/EL CAMINO REAL <br />INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE <br />SUBMITTAL OF TWO APPLICATIONS TO THE SAN MATEO COUNTY <br />TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY FOR MEASURE A & W CYCLE 7 <br />PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE PROGRAM FUNDING <br /> <br />WHEREAS, creating and maintaining a multimodal, safe, and accessible <br />transportation network is one of the City of Redwood City (Project Sponsor) City Council’s <br />adopted strategic priorities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 10, 2024, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority <br />(TA) announced a Call for Projects for the Measure A & W Pedestrian and Bicycle <br />Program Cycle 7 with the goal to fund projects that improve bicycling and walking <br />accessibility and safety in San Mateo County, helping to encourage more residents to <br />participate in active transportation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, RWCMoves, the citywide transportation plan, identified Vera Avenue <br />as a bicycle backbone network and the Project Sponsor is committed to prioritizing and <br />improving the biking environment on this corridor and transition the current quick-build <br />project to a permanent bicycle boulevard through the Vera Avenue Bicycle Boulevard <br />Project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Project Sponsor identified pedestrian safety concerns at the <br />intersection of El Camino Real and James Avenue and is committed to increasing the <br />safety and convenience of people walking and crossing this intersection through the <br />James Avenue/El Camino Real Intersection Improvement Project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Vera Avenue Bicycle Boulevard Project and James Avenue/El <br />Camino Real Intersection Improvements Project are among top-priority traffic safety <br />projects for the city and are aligned with the TA’s requirements for this Call for Projects; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it will cost $1,396,000 to construct the Vera Avenue Bicycle <br />Boulevard; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it will cost $1,240,000 to construct the James Avenue/El Camino Real <br />Intersection Improvement Project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Project Sponsor seeks $2,442,000 for the Projects; and <br /> <br />6.H. - Page 5 of 6 <br />205
