Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />DATE: August 26, 2024 <br />SUBJECT <br />California Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4 fire department state-mandated inspection compliance <br />reporting FY 2023-24 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution acknowledging receipt of the FY2023-24 report of compliance with California Health <br />and Safety Code Section 13146.4 relating to mandatory fire inspections. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />Under California Health and Safety Code Section 13146, a fire chief or a chief building official of a city or <br />county, or their representative, is responsible for enforcement of building standards adopted by the State <br />Fire Marshal and published in the California Building Standards Code relating to fire and panic safety and <br />other regulations of the State Fire Marshal. California Health and Safety Code Section 13146.3 requires <br />the chief of any city or county fire department or district providing fire protection services and his or her <br />authorized representatives to inspect every building used as a public or private school within his or her <br />jurisdiction for the purpose of enforcing specified building standards, not less than once each year, as <br />provided. California Health and Safety Code Section 13146.2 requires every city or county fire department <br />or district providing fire protection services that are required to enforce specified building standards to <br />annually inspect certain structures, including hotels, motels, lodging houses, and apartment houses, for <br />compliance with building standards, as provided. <br />SB 1205 added Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4, which now requires every city or county fire <br />department, city, and county fire department, or district required to perform the above-described <br />6.N. - Page 1 of 5 <br />567
