7 <br /> <br />Boards, Commissions, and Committees Handbook| SeptemberMay 2024 2021 <br />BCCs are primarily responsible for advising and making recommendatfons to the City Council. The <br />City Council then uses the advice and recommendatfons offered by BCCs to make decisions. The <br />Planning Commission, Parks, Recreatfon and Community Services Commission, and Board of <br />Building Review have a regulatory nature as well. After the City Council has made a decision, the <br />BCCs are expected to acknowledge the positfon of the City Council and implement the City <br />Council’s decision. <br /> <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVES <br />Vision <br />A community where people of all backgrounds and income levels can thrive. <br /> <br />Mission <br />Building a welcoming Redwood City through collaboratfon, responsiveness and excellence. <br /> <br />Foundational Guiding Principle <br />Redwood City will put equity first, urging a collectfve restart so that policies serve the entfre <br />community. <br /> <br />Strategic Priorities <br />Housing, Transportatfon, and Children and Youth <br /> <br />2020 Redwood City Strategic Plan – In January 2020, the City Council adopted a Strategic Plan, <br />which established new vision and mission statements and nine Guiding Principles. To address the <br />most pressing community and regional challenges, the City Council selected three Strategic <br />Prioritfes: housing, transportatfon, and children and youth (in priority order). Goals for each of <br />the Strategic Prioritfes focus staff actfvitfes. The Guiding Principles are: Aesthetfcs, <br />Communicatfon and Community Building, Economic Vitality, Excellence in Government <br />Operatfons, Healthy Community for All Ages, Housing, Public Safety, Sustainability, and <br />Transportatfon. <br /> <br />On August 29, 2020, the City Council reaffirmed these Strategic Prioritfes and emphasized the <br />importance of social equity and integratfng diversity, equity, and inclusion in the provision of all <br />City services. <br /> <br />On October 12, 2020 the City Council amended the Plan to include a Foundatfonal Guiding <br />Principle: Redwood City will put equity first, urging a collectfve restart so that policies serve the <br />entfre community. <br /> <br />9.B. - Page 15 of 53 <br />171
