<br />Residents, property owners and businesses of City of Redwood City are entftled to have fair,
<br />ethical and accountable local government. Such a government requires that public officials: be
<br />independent, impartfal and fair in their judgment and actfons; use their public office for the public
<br />good, not for personal gain, and conduct public deliberatfons and processes openly, unless legally
<br />confidentfal, in an atmosphere of respect and civility. Elected and aAppointed officials shall honor
<br />this personal code of conduct from the tfme of their electfon or appointment to office.
<br />
<br />• Act in the Public Interest: Recognizing that stewardship of the public interest must be their
<br />principal concern, everyone shall work for the common good of the City of Redwood City and not
<br />for any private or personal interest, and they will endeavor to treat all persons, claims and
<br />transactfons in fair and equitable manner.
<br />• Comply with the Law: Everyone shall comply with the laws of the natfon, the State of California
<br />and the City in the performance of their public dutfes. These laws include but are not limited to:
<br />the United States and California constftutfons; the City of Redwood City Charter, MunicipalCity
<br />Code, City policies and other governing documents related to conflict of interest, electfon
<br />campaigns, financial disclosures, and employer responsibilitfes and open processes of
<br />government.
<br />• Conduct of Members: Everyone shall refrain from abusive conduct and verbal attacks upon the
<br />character or motfves of other members of the City Council, boards, commissions, committees,
<br />staff or the public.
<br />• No Tolerance for Hharassment or MMicroaggressions: The City of Redwood City is committed to
<br />providing an environment for employees, elected or appointed officials, members of the public,
<br />and contractors that promotes dignity and respect and is free from discriminatfon and
<br />harassment. The City prohibits all forms of harassment and discriminatfon based upon protected
<br />classificatfons as defined below. “Protected Classificatfon” includes race, religion (including
<br />religious dress or grooming practfce), religious creed, color, sex (includes gender, gender identfty,
<br />gender expression, transgender, pregnancy, childbirth, medical conditfons related to pregnancy
<br />or childbirth, breastieeding or medical conditfons related to breastieeding), sexual orientatfon
<br />(including heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality), ethnicity, natfonal origin, ancestry,
<br />citfzenship status, military and veteran status, marital status, family relatfonship, age, medical
<br />conditfon, genetfc characteristfcs and/or genetfc informatfon, and physical or mental disability.
<br />
<br />In additfon to prohibitfng explicit harassment, the City of Redwood City strives to provide an
<br />inclusive environment. One method to create an inclusive public space is to help people develop
<br />awareness of microaggressions and remove them from conversatfon. Microaggressions are
<br />comments or actfons that subtly and often unconsciously or unintentfonally expresses a
