Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />DATE: September 9, 2024 <br />SUBJECT <br />Agreement for Services with Stevens Creek Quarry, Inc. to provide as-needed backfill materials <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a Master Purchase Agreement for Goods, <br />Commodities, and Services with Stevens Creek Quarry, Inc. to provide as-needed backfill materials for a <br />one-year term through 2025 in an amount not to exceed $85,000, including City Manager authority to <br />extend the agreement for two additional, two-year periods through 2029, for a potential aggregate not- <br />to-exceed amount of $460,388. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Public Works Services Department (“PWS”) is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the <br />water and sewer utility systems. This infrastructure includes miles of underground pipes that require repair <br />or replacement on an as-needed basis. A utility trench is created in the ground in order to make the repair. <br />Afterwards, the utility trench is backfilled with specific materials that ensure long-term stability and <br />support around the pipe. To backfill these utility trenches in a timely manner, staff must be able to readily <br />purchase these materials from a vendor. Additionally, to reduce trucking costs and time to transport these <br />goods, it is in the City’s best interest to be able to purchase from a vendor that is located close to the PWS <br />yard and can supply quantities sufficient to meet the City’s relatively substantial needs. <br />6.H. - Page 1 of 15 <br />94
