<br />14 <br /> <br />7.6.2 Effective the first full pay period following City Council’s approval of <br />a successor MOU in 2024, Paramedic Premium Pay– <br />Firefighter/Engineers who obtain and maintain certification in <br />auxiliary medical techniques, who become accredited to practice as <br />Paramedics in San Mateo County and who are assigned to work as a <br />paramedic for Redwood City will receive a twelvenine and one-half <br />percent (12.5%)(9.5%) of Base Pay premium, effective upon the first <br />payroll period following submittal of qualifying paperwork and <br />approval of the Fire Chief. This shall be in addition to EMT Premium <br />Pay, such that a Fire Fighter/Engineer who is a licensed EMT and <br />accredited and assigned to practice as a Paramedic in San Mateo <br />County for Redwood City may receive a total fourteen seventeen and <br />one-half percent (17.5%) (14.5%) of Base Pay premium. <br /> <br />7.6.3 Except when promoted to Fire Captain or otherwise disqualified, <br />Paramedics shall remain licensed and accredited for a minimum of <br />four (4) years from the date the employee first receives the Redwood <br />City Paramedic incentivepremium. <br /> <br />7.6.4 Fire Fighter/Engineers will maintain Paramedic Premium Pay when <br />temporarily acting in a higher classification. <br /> <br />7.6.5 Paramedic Training Program Incentive: Firefighter/Engineers who <br />have successfully completed their probationary period may request <br />to participate in a paramedic training program, in furtherance of the <br />employee’s position, at the City’s expense. Such participation shall <br />be subject to the approval of the Fire Chief. <br /> <br />A. Paramedic Training Program: For Firefighter/Engineers who are <br />approved to participate in a paramedic training program, the City <br />will loan the employee funds to cover the cost of books, tuition, <br />mileage and associated fees. <br /> <br />B. As a condition of participation in the Paramedic Training Program <br />covered by this section, Firefighter/Engineers must commit to be <br />an assigned Paramedic with the City for two (2) years from the <br />date the employee first receives Redwood City Paramedic <br />Premium Pay following completion of the Paramedic Training <br />Program. For every three months of time served as an assigned <br />Paramedic with the City, the City will forgive one-eighth (1/8th) of <br />the loan for the cost of the training program. At the end of the <br />two (2) years of service as a Redwood City assigned Paramedic, <br />the City loan for the cost of the Paramedic Training Program will <br />be forgiven.
