From:Iris Lezama
To:publiccomment
Subject:Request to Consider Redwood City as a Sanctuary City
Date:Monday, November 25, 2024 12:14:52 PM
Dear Redwood City Council Members,
I am writing to respectfully urge you to consider designating Redwood City as a sanctuary
city, providing support and protection for hardworking immigrants, families, and community
members who contribute so much to the fabric of our city and its economy.
Our immigrant community plays a vital role in Redwood City’s growth and success—whether
through their labor, entrepreneurship, or service to others. They are integral members of our
neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and workforce. It is crucial that we acknowledge and
protect their rights, ensuring that they feel safe and valued in the city they call home.
By declaring Redwood City a sanctuary city, we have the opportunity to lead by example,
demonstrating compassion, justice, and respect for the diversity that strengthens our
community. Our action could create a ripple effect, inspiring other cities in the region and
beyond to follow suit, ultimately pushing toward a more just and inclusive solution for the
ongoing challenges facing our immigrant populations.
I believe that by taking this step, Redwood City can set a powerful example of how
communities can thrive together, united in their commitment to equity and human dignity.
Thank you for considering this important issue. I am hopeful that, together, we can work
toward a solution that reflects the values of our city and supports all of our residents.
Sincerely,
Iris Lezama
