city does not cooperate with ICE is deeply personal. I come from a community
of hard working and resilient individuals, many of whom are undocumented.
Many of them do not have the time or energy to ask those who have sworn to
protect us/ our wellbeing to ensure something as basic as being able to live in
a city where dignity, safety, and humanity are upheld, regardless of
immigration status. It is a privilege and our responsibility as members of this
community to ensure that we are all protected and have a place we can call
home. A sanctuary city means safety, trust, and the ability to live without fear.
It means affirming our dignity and showing that our contributions and existence
matter. This decision would send a powerful message that our city stands with
us, not against us.”
In solidarity with Redwood City’s undocumented community, we encourage the
Council to step up its important work in protecting our most vulnerable population.
Sincerely,
Adriana Lugo, Diana Tedone-Goldstone, Julie Carey, Jessica Silver-Sharp, Sharon
Song, Doniella Maher and Salumeh Eslamieh
