I’ve been a resident of Redwood City since 2021. I work as a
professional musician and preschool music educator. I work closely with children and
teachers of immigrant families. I witness firsthand how music has the power to bring people
together, crossing cultural and linguistic barriers.
With that being said, I would like to declare Redwood City a sanctuary city. I want to ensure
the local law enforcement does not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement in ways
that threaten the safety and well-being of our immigrant community members. The fabric of
Redwood City is vibrant, diverse, and inclusive. Sanctuary status would allow protection for
all residents regardless of immigration status. But protecting our immigrant community, we
not only uphold human dignity but also preserve the cultural fabric that inspires creativity and
connection in our city. Respectfully, I ask for the council to prioritize this issue, and place it
on a future agenda and work toward drafting a resolution that formalizes Redwood City as a
sanctuary city. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
Kira Goodkind
