From:Katie Goetz
To:GRP-City Council; publiccomment
Subject:City of Redwood City, Sanctuary City Ordinace
Date:Sunday, November 24, 2024 2:57:11 PM
Some people who received this message don't often get email from katiemgoetz@gmail.com. Learn why this isimportant
Dear Redwood City City Council Members,
I wish I could be with you this evening, but a number of faith communities from Redwood
City, San Carlos, and beyond are gathering tonight for a community Thanksgiving worship
service in San Carlos.
Part of what we are giving thanks for is the diversity and and richness that we call home in
Redwood City and San Mateo County. No small part of this richness comes from the
immigrant members of our community -- regardless of their federal immigration status.
To this end, I urge you, both tonight and again in December to vote in favor of the "City of
Redwood City Sanctuary City Ordinance." It is my hope and prayer that our city resources are
used for the flourishing of our Redwood City community, and not for detaining people and
disrupting family and community life.
In my faith tradition we hear Jesus say, "I was a stranger and you welcomed me," and I want
Redwood City to be a place where we live out this welcome day in and day out.
Again, please support the Sanctuary City Ordinance. And I look forward to being with you in
person on December 16th to continue this work.
Sincerely,
Rev. Katie Goetz
pastor, Woodside Road United Methodist Church
(also, chair of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee, but I am writing as a private
individual, not in representation of that body)
