From:Pamela Ehrlich
To:publiccomment
Subject:Agenda item 7A: 11/25/24 Redwood City City Council Meeting
Date:Sunday, November 24, 2024 11:55:31 AM
You don't often get email from pamela_ehrlich@yahoo.com. Learn why this is important
Honorable Redwood City City Council Members,
My name is Pamela Ehrlich and I’m a community leader and Board member of Faith in Action
Bay Area, a member of Congregation Beth Jacob, and a volunteer English-as-a-Second
Language educator at Sequoia High School.
I am aware that Council member Chris Sturken has submitted a referral item (Agenda item
7A) for the Council meeting on Monday, November 25th presented as "Future consideration
of an ordinance restricting the use of City resources to assist or cooperate with immigration
authorities”. I strongly encourage you to place the related ordinance on your agenda for
review at the December 9th Council meeting.
I have been working with the immigrant community in Redwood City for over 7 years, both at
Sequoia High School and through Faith in Action, Many of the undocumented community
come from mixed status families and are waiting for their asylum proceedings and
documentation. The trauma that accompanies deportation—and the threat of it—plagues
families, many of whom have been living, working and going to school in Redwood City for
years. The impact that anticipated policies introduced by the incoming federal administration
will severely disrupt our community.
The increased fear and psychological turmoil experienced by our neighbors, including the
students I work with, will have a devastating effect on an already vulnerable population. Our
neighbors deserve to feel safe where they live. The proposed ordinance would provide some
sense of assurance that their city is looking out for them.
Thank you for your leadership and commitment to consideration of the proposed ordinance.
Pamela Ehrlich
650-804-2248 cell
