In carrying out this responsibility, staff routinely assess the condition of systems
vital to daily operations and identify those needing repair or replacement.
On or around March 19, 2024, PWS staff identified the need for emergency replacement of the lobby
entry doors at the Police Department. Staff assessed that the mechanical and electronic components that
control the entryway to the facility had failed, causing the doors to operate improperly by opening and
closing erratically when activated. The doors also would not open or close consistently when triggered by
ADA sensors, hindering ADA accessibility for visitors and staff. Staff’s attempts to repair the doors using
City forces were unsuccessful due to the age of the infrastructure and the limited availability of compatible
door components and parts.
6.F. - Page 1 of 4
175
