City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
ANALYSIS
Staff contacted two contractors to assess the site conditions and provide cost estimates for the
replacement work. Allegion Access Technologies, LLC. (Allegion) was subsequently contracted to perform
the door replacement given their ability to meet the City’s contractual requirements and having provided
a cost proposal that was deemed fair and reasonable given staff’s knowledge of the industry and the scope
of work required.
Staff elected to replace the old swinging door system with a telescoping (sliding) door system that
minimizes the potential of restricted accessibility in the event of a failure. All automatic entry doors
require custom fabrication to ensure proper fit in the intended footprint.
Before After
As of September 24, 2024, the emergency door replacement project has been completed to the
satisfaction of City staff. Staff recommends approval of the City Manager’s emergency action, a
determination that replacement of Police Department’s lobby door was necessary to respond to the
emergency, retroactive authorization of the City Manager's execution of a Construction Agreement with
Allegion Access Technologies LLC in an amount not to exceed $22,725, acceptance of the project, and
authorization to release of bonds and retention according to City procedures.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for the emergency work was allocated from the Tenant Improvement Account within the Capital
Outlay Fund.
6.F. - Page 3 of 4
177
