City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
DATE: November 25, 2024
SUBJECT
Temporary removal of existing floating dock and associated utilities to limit public health and safety issues
and City costs while the City conducts community engagement on use of City property in the Inner Harbor
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve and authorize the temporary removal of the existing floating dock and associated
utilities at Docktown Marina while the City conducts community engagement on use of City property in
the Inner Harbor.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Excellence in Government Operations
BACKGROUND
Docktown Marina (Docktown) is located on Redwood Creek and is north of, and immediately adjacent to,
1548 Maple Street in Redwood City (shown in Figure 1). Docktown currently consists of approximately
2,000 linear square feet of dock area and ramps and about 95 berths. Additional information about the
surrounding land uses and general description can be found in the attached memo, titled Categorical
Exemption Memorandum for Proposed Docktown Marina Project, Redwood City, San Mateo County,
California (Memo).
In 1945, the City acquired the portion of Redwood Creek which is now Docktown from the State of
California and in 1964 the City leased the waterway for marina use. Through March 2013, Docktown was
operated by Docktown Marina, Inc., a private party with a lease agreement and permit to operate the
marina. The City took over operations and management of Docktown in 2013, after Docktown Marina,
Inc. terminated its lease and permit.
6.G. - Page 1 of 45
179
