Page 4 of 7 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />BILINGUAL PAY PREMIUM <br />The Tentative Agreement eliminates eligibility for Bilingual Pay Premium for proficiency or fluency in the <br />languages of Vietnamese and Russian. There is a very small population in Redwood City who speak those <br />languages, and no City employees currently receive Bilingual Pay for speaking Vietnamese or Russian in <br />the course of their job duties. <br />EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: <br />Currently, Police Officers who obtain a P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate receive Educational Incentive pay <br />equal to 2.5% of base pay. Police Officers who obtain a P.O.S.T. Advanced Certificate, receive additional <br />Education Incentive pay equal to either 3.5% of base pay (if hired on or after January 23, 2023) or 5% of <br />base pay (if hired before January 23, 2023). Police Officers hired on or after January 23, 2023, who possess <br />a Bachelor’s degree, receive an additional 1.5% of base pay as educational incentive pay. Total Education <br />Incentive pay available for Police Officers is currently 7.5%. <br />The Tentative Agreement includes that effective the first full pay period following City Council approval <br />of a successor MOU in 2024, for Police Officers who obtain a P.O.S.T. Advanced Certificate, the current <br />additional Educative Incentive pay will increase from equal to 3.5% of base pay to equal to 5% of base pay <br />for those hired on or after January 23, 2023 with no change to the 1.5% of base pay for possession of a <br />Bachelor’s degree, and will increase from 5% of base pay to 6.5% of base pay for those hired before <br />January 23, 2023. For all Police Officers, total Educational Incentive pay available will increase from 7.5% <br />to 9% of base pay. <br />K-9 MAINTENANCE COMPENSATION: <br />Effective the first full pay period following City Council approval of a successor MOU in 2024, Caine Officers <br />who are required to keep available a privately owned vehicle for canine transportation during their <br />working days as a condition of employment shall be provided an auto allowance in the amount of $200.00 <br />per month. The auto allowance will be in lieu of mileage reimbursement provided under Section 7.18 of <br />the Tentative Agreement where applicable. <br />NEW HIRE LATERALS: <br />Currently, new hire lateral Police Officers will assume, at hire, a vacation accrual rate based upon their <br />total of years of full-time sworn law enforcement experience. The Tentative Agreement provides, as a <br />recruitment incentive, that the City shall provide a supplemental grant of 40 vacation hours to be <br />immediately available to a new hire lateral. <br />4/10 AND 3/12½ SCHEDULES: <br />Employees are scheduled to work either 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (40 hours per week), or 3 days <br />per week, 12½ hours per day (37½ hours per week). The Tentative Agreement clarifies that those <br />employees scheduled to work a 3-day per week, 12½ hours per day schedule (37½ hours per week) for a <br />full year, will also be required to work a total of 12 additional make-up days within the fiscal year (five 12 <br />hour make-up days and seven 10 hour make-up days), consisting of one make-up day each month. <br />SICK LEAVE <br />Currently an employee who has been absent more than 3 consecutive work days or duty shifts must file <br />with the City a statement by a licensed medical practitioner that the employee was under said doctor’s <br />care while absent. The Tentative Agreement increases the consecutive days off requiring a licensed <br />medical practitioner statement from 3 days to 5 days, and adds that the City may require certification <br />6.I. - Page 4 of 84 <br />234
