Page 5 of 7 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org <br />from a licensed medical practitioner if the City has reasonable suspicion that the employee abused sick <br />leave. <br />The Tentative Agreement adds to the list of reasons an employee may use up to one-half of accrued sick <br />leave in any calendar year to include a designated person, which, for purposes of this provision, means a <br />person identified by the employee covered by this MOU, at the time that employee requests paid sick <br />leave. Employees covered by this policy are limited to one such designated person per 12-month period <br />for whom they can use paid sick leave to provide care. <br />INDUSTRIAL DISABILITY LEAVE: <br />Employees on industrial disability leave, who have successfully completed their initial probationary <br />period, must continue to contribute Association dues, and all employee benefit contributions, including <br />the 1.8% retiree health cost share, where applicable. If an employee takes vacation while on industrial <br />disability leave, the employee is required to inform their supervisor two (2) weeks in advance. A <br />supervisor may inquire with an employee while the employee is on industrial disability leave. The <br />employee must respond to the supervisor’s inquiries within a reasonable time. Employees are required <br />to immediately notify their supervisor in the event of a change in their work status. <br />WELLNESS PROGRAM <br />The parties tentatively agreed to continue the wellness program on an ongoing basis. Language regarding <br />benchmarks for employees participating in the Wellness Program are being removed. <br />PROBATION FOR NEW EMPLOYEES: <br />A new hire employee serves a probationary period of 18 months. The Tentative Agreement provides that: <br />effective September 10, 2024, for new Police Academy graduates, such probationary period begins after <br />graduation from the P.O.S.T. training academy and the change in classification from Police Officer Trainee <br />to appointment as Police Officer. <br />PROMOTED EMPLOYEES: <br />Adding language to clarify that promotional appointments do not include appointment from Police Officer <br />Trainee to Police Officer. <br />SPECIALITY ASSIGNMENTS: <br />Adding language that Officers assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force shall be <br />assigned for a period of up to five (5) years; however, in extraordinary circumstances, the Police Chief may <br />authorize additional time in the assignment in one (1) year increments, but not to exceed a maximum of <br />seven (7) years. <br />EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS TO RETIREMENT SYSTEM <br />The four percent (4%) cost-sharing in accordance with Section 20516(f) of the Government Code, <br />suspended effective August 29, 2024, will resume effective September 9, 2024 and end August 29, 2027. <br />Based on the mutual intent of the parties, for the sole purpose of applying retroactivity for 2024 MOU <br />implementation, in the event the retroactive application of the pension cost share for Tier 1 and Tier 2 <br />employees between September 9, 2024 and December 1, 2024 exceeds the amount owed to such <br />employees as a result of the retroactive application of the 2024 cost of living adjustment between August <br />6.I. - Page 5 of 84 <br />235
