<br />25 <br /> <br />a twelve and one half (12.5) hour shift on a regular basis is defined as <br />being assigned to a twelve and one half (12.5) hour shift through the <br />department’s regular shift bidding process. Employees who do not <br />normally work a twelve and one half (12.5) hour shift but do so on <br />occasion as a result of overtime or trade to cover another officer’s twelve <br />and one half (12.5) hour shift are not eligible for the twelve and one half <br />(12.5) hour monthly sick leave accrual. <br /> <br /> All other regular full-time and probationary employees shall accrue sick <br />leave at the rate of ten (10) hours per month, provided they have worked <br />one hundred sixty (160) hours that month, to a maximum of one-thousand <br />two-hundred (1200) hours. <br /> <br /> Sick leave usage shall be considered as a privilege which an employee <br />may use at their discretion, but shall be allowed only in case of necessity <br />of actual sickness or disability. <br /> <br /> Charge for sick leave used shall be on the basis of one (1) hour for each <br />hour used; provided however, that sick leave shall be charged for only <br />those hours when the employee was absent from work. Sick leave may <br />not be used before it is earned. <br /> <br />9.1.2 Effective July 1, 2005, employees shall be eligible for sick leave benefits <br />from the commencement of their employment with the City, to a <br />maximum of the hours accrued, for absence due to non-occupational <br />disability only during the time such disability, illness, or other sickness or <br />injury continues. Sick leave during the first three (3) months of <br />employment may only be used with the approval of the Police Chief or <br />their designee. Sick leave shall not be credited to any employee whose <br />employment is terminated prior to three (3) months of employment. <br /> <br /> At the City's request, an employee who has been absent more than five (5) <br />consecutive work days or duty shiftsthree (3) days must file with the City <br />a statement by a licensed medical practitioner that the employee was <br />under said doctor's care while absent. When an employee returns to work <br />after any absence chargeable to sick leave or as a result of an industrial <br />absence or illness, the City may require a statement from a physician that <br />the employee is in fit physical condition to perform all the duties of their <br />position. In addition, the employee may be required to undergo a medical <br />examination at the City's expense to be performed by a doctor designated <br />by the City, before the employee is permitted to return to work. The City <br />may require certification from a licensed medical practitioner if the City <br />has reasonable suspicion that the employee abused sick leave. <br /> <br />An employee may use up to one-half (1/2) of accrued sick leave in any <br />calendar year for the following reasons: <br /> <br />6.I. - Page 37 of 84 <br />267
