<br />45 <br /> <br />Any officer in a specialty assignment shall be eligible to apply for a permanent <br />position if one becomes available while they are in their rotational assignment or <br />within six (6) months from the date of completion of the specialty assignment. <br />There will be two (2) permanent assignments for Detective, and two (2) permanent <br />assignments for Motorcycle Officer. Any Officer in the specialty assignment of <br />Canine Handler, Permanent Detective, or Permanent Motorcycle Officer may apply <br />for another specialty assignment without a waiting period. <br /> <br />Excluding vacation requests, seniority will be recognized as length of time the <br />employee has worked within the specialty unit. <br /> <br /> <br />SECTION 12. PROMOTION <br /> <br />12.1 Examination <br /> <br />In the event the City desires to fill a vacancy by promotion, the Personnel Officer <br />shall prepare and administer an examination for those employees holding similar <br />positions in lower classes. <br /> <br />Promotional examinations scheduled by the City during an employee’s regular <br />working hours may be taken without any loss in compensation. <br /> <br />12.2 Eligible List <br /> <br />The names of the successful qualified candidates shall be recorded on an eligible <br />list. Eligible lists shall continue in effect one (1) year after establishment. The name <br />of any person on an eligible list may be removed by the Personnel Office if the <br />eligible person requests in writing that their name be removed, or if they fail to <br />respond to a written offer of employment within five (5) business days next <br />succeeding the mailing of notice. <br /> <br />If a candidate waives an offer of employment the candidate shall be removed from <br />the eligible list. <br /> <br /> <br />SECTION 13. RESIGNATION <br /> <br />An employee wishing to leave the service of the City in good standing shall file with the <br />Police Chief at least two (2) weeks’ notice of an intention to leave the service unless the <br />Police Chief consents to the employee's leaving sooner. The written resignation shall state <br />the effective date and reasons for leaving. The resignation shall be forwarded to the <br />Personnel Officer, with a statement by the Police Chief as to the resigned employee's <br />service performance and other pertinent information concerning the cause for resignation. <br /> <br /> <br />SECTION 14.
